engagements

susan + dan 07.19.10
we became smitten with susan and dan when we did their engagement photos in a nearby park. the wedding and ceremony went seamlessly. susan bought her dress of craigslist for a steal: she laughed as the beautiful long, detailed train trampled sticks and ants on the sidewalk on her way to surprise dan before their ceremony.
a really beautiful moment with the girls was when they all held hands in a back room and shared their funniest memories involving susan. just minutes before, the guys were orchestrating their own beatles abbey road cover and all hilariously frozen in line walking the cross walk across the street.

everything was just so lovely and we were thrilled to tag along for this beautiful lovey dovey dance party laying down in clover record player chocolate cake ride.

we love to keep you all up to date on who we are and what we do. here, you see our lovey dovey sides. we'd love for you to also bookmark our editorial blogs, to get a sense of our news photography and personal photography sides, too, cuz c'mon, what bride wouldn't want to brag that her photographers shoot for TIME and The New York Times, as well as her ohsospecial wedding day?

david's other photo life can be found here, where you can see a shoot he did of hip hopper big boi, a new project exploring places that aren't quite what they say they are, and more.

kendrick's other images can be found here, where you can find a shoot she did of folk singer emily saliers, of the indigo girls, her ongoing project on sun city, arizona's 50th anniversary, as well as what photo of hers is currently in a gallery in texas.
july 2010, pulnabrone dolmen, western ireland.
the stones behind us date back to 2500 bc. a dolmen is a stone monument tomb of sorts. 'pulnabrone' means 'hole of sorrows' and was breathtaking to see this ancient monument with the gorgeous Irish countryside behind.

our family

jessica + james 07.12.10
i often cry at weddings. behind my camera. there's just this swelling inside me, that although i will only know these people for a day, that this day, this moment is so tremendous. so full of love.

david and i just returned from a trip to magical ireland with my family. we work so hard. most days we work 12+ hours juggling the magazine, newspaper, personal work and this wedding side of our job, and while we love what we do, we get so caught up in trying to mark off to do lists that we forget to remember. we forget to remember how beautiful everything is. sure, we notice, that's part of being such visual people, but it's on to the next thing and we forget to savor it. i'll tell you more about ireland soon, but i'm telling you this now because while we're jetlagged and haven't even unpacked yet, i just watched the slideshow from jessica and james' wedding and i cried. i never cry after the wedding, but being reminded of jessica's huge laugh that i'm sure originates from the very chambers of her incredible and giving heart and the sweet and ohsotender way that james watches her, eyes so wide, smiling at the corners, made my eyes water.

life is so precious.
so. f****ing. precious.
jessica and james live in atlanta, but were married in wichita where jessica grew up. we'd never been to kansas and while it's not a place you hear about often, it stirred us. the way the wind bounces across the waves of grain sped up my heart. the way jessica, on HER wedding day, made sure to compliment everyone and take care of everyone reminded me to be more selfless. the way james and jessica are so supportive of each other reminded me of why i love david so. their wedding was in the backyard of jessica's family's home and was both so simple and so elaborately filled with everything that matters to j+j so perfectly--music hanging from strings, lanterns from trees, a wooden dance floor on the grass that she played on as a girl, the absolute tight-knittedness of their family and friends that filled the tent--this is love.

after this wedding i wanted to tell you about how perfect it all went, the farmer's field for portraits and the farmer's wife who came out and showed us her barn; how all of jessica's bridesmaids play volleyball together and worked like a team, a unit, of support, even in their gowns; how james' dad made everyone laugh so hard during his speech and how he started to sing and lost the words and james knew the old country western song and filled in the gaps; how david and i know jessica back from journalism school when we discovered our passion for photography; back before we were in love; back before jessica met james on a boat and they both pretended to be smokers to impress each other and jessica tried to light the cigarette backwards; back before we all knew this beautiful night was going to unfold with such sparkle.

sure, i'm telling you now. i'm jetlagged. i'm emotional. i just spent 11 days with the people who matter most to me in this world (with a few exceptions) in one of the most enchanting areas of the world. i watched their wedding slideshow with these pictures, and i'm hit with a ton of bricks.

all. is. love.

thanks jessica and james. you are the most beautiful epitome of what is love and what is laughter.
